Our first big project with Coinbase took shape as a basketball skills challenge at the NBA All-Star weekend Crossover event. The speed and accuracy of your shot would determine your score and your prizes. I led the software development, which included interactive graphics, physical lighting, a show control tablet app, and sensors embedded in the basketball hoop.
The big question — Can you score at the speed of crypto? In order to find out, participants were challenged to use our targeting system to sink a free throw at the exact moment the backboard was illuminated. Accuracy determined their status as a Trainee, Astronaut or Commander, which unlocked access to on-chain collectibles and perks, event specific apparel and accessories, and other NBA exclusives.
